In 2019, a group of pastors in India reached out to TGC asking how we could partner together to resource and serve their nation with gospel-centered resources that are trusted and timely, winsome and wise. So, after several years of conversations and preparations, it is my great joy and privilege to announce the new TGC India Website.
Home to more than 1.4 billion people, India accounts for more than 17 percent of the world’s population. However, only about 2.4 percent of those Indians identify as Christians. Further, India is the second-largest English-speaking nation in the world, second only to the United States, with more than 125 million English speakers.
‘TGC India desires to faithfully reimagine the original vision of The Gospel Coalition for where the Indian church stands today.’
As with all of our International Coalitions, TGC India is formed by a local group of pastors and writers who understand and serve their nation. The founding Council comprises Arvind Balaram, Akshay Rajkumar, Anand Mahadevan, and Ranjit David. They join a team of more than 16 authors, currently representing Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, and Mumbai.
In their words:
The Indian church is both large and small. It is large because even this tiny fraction actually translates to 28 million Christians, larger than the population of Australia or Texas, but it is also small because these 28 million have very little influence over the rest of the country. TGC India desires to faithfully reimagine the original vision of The Gospel Coalition contextualized to where the Indian church stands today.
TGC India is establishing an English-language website that is launching with more than 25 articles, blogs, and videos. You can read “Why New India Needs the Ancient Gospel” or “The Neglected Reality of Spiritual Warfare,” as well as watch the Council discuss “The Gospel and the Dream of India.”
TGC India joins The Gospel Coalition’s growing network of 15 International Coalitions. Join us in thanking God as we see the gospel advance—for all of life, for all the world.
