If you know anything about Mark Dever, you know he makes disciples of Jesus Christ. The senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., Dever has trained up and sent out dozens of pastors and other church leaders around the world. Many of them have worked with The Gospel Coalition. Some of them have worked for us. One of them, Matt Smethurst, is our managing editor.

So what’s his secret? Is Dever unique, or can the rest of us learn from him? How do we lead our churches and create a culture of disciples who make disciples, so that we can obey the Great Commission of Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:18–20?

Dever shares biblical insight and experiential wisdom in his little book Discipling: How to Help Others Follow Jesus (9Marks/Crossway). He joins me on The Gospel Coalition Podcast to discuss what to look for in a disciple, how to disciple someone who’s quite different, and much more.
