Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, constant in prayer. Rom. 12:12
Lord Jesus, in the general sense, a “trifecta” is just a set of three things. In the technical sense, it’s rightly choosing the first three finishers in a race. In every sense, Paul’s “Gospel-trifecta” will always be a wise choice, because you are the foundation, heartbeat, and music of each.
Joyful in Hope: Jesus, our hope is built on nothing less, more, or other than you, and your finished work for us. In a world of instability, uncertainty, and “sinking sand,” you are our Rock and righteousness. All other joys are a mere whisper and hint of the joy we have in you, and by you.
Patient in Affliction: In your Word, “affliction” covers the whole gambit—everything from daily stress to global crisis. Persecution for our faith, heartache in our relationships, the hardships of failing health—you care about all of it, Jesus. We can be patient, because all brokenness has an expiration date. We can be patient because you are at work in all things for our good. We can be patient because you are with us and for us. You know our names, and every storm knows your name.
Constant in Prayer: We can pray without ceasing because you love us without wavering and rule over everything without exception; and because you actually enjoy fellowshipping with us. Prayer isn’t us finagling “Yes’s” out of you, but discovering you are the “Yes!” to every promise God has made. Hallelujah!… and So Very Amen.
