You have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. (Hebrews 12:22-24)
Lord Jesus, whether we gather to worship you this weekend in a building or parking lot, in a courtyard or backyard, online or offline—no matter the address, this passage in Hebrews describes the true location and magnificence of our worship.
Every time we gather to worship you, in Spirit and truth, we join the assembly of innumerable joyful angels; and our brothers and sisters who have preceded us into heaven. Hallelujah, it’s no small thing to worship you. Drive this bigger picture, grander view, and glorious reality deep into our hearts.
We don’t only long for the day, all COVID restrictions on our worship will be gone; much more so, we long for the Day when we will stream into the New Jerusalem, as your every-nation Bride. Hasten that Day, Lord Jesus.
Until then, continue to capture our hearts, fuel our worship, and free us to live and love to your glory. So very Amen we pray, in your grace-full name.
