The Non-Stop Goodness of Our Father

“They shall be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make with them an everlasting covenant that I will never stop doing good to them.” Jer. 32:38-40

Heavenly Father, this passage is simultaneously a peace-banquet, grace-lottery, and hope-haven. Jesus is the heartbeat, substance, and guarantee of the new and everlasting covenant you promised.

We want a greater experience of everything promised in the new covenant, beginning with “one heart.” Free us to love you with everything we have and are, Father. Currently, there are many things battling for our heart’s attention, affection, and allegiance. In our differences, give us a unity of heart for Jesus.

We want “one way”—seeking first your Kingdom, living by our heavenly citizenship, obeying King Jesus over every other allegiance.

Now that we’re no longer afraid of you, we want to “fear you,” Father—to live before you with affectionate reverence, surrender, and trust. Once again, help us be still… and know you are God.

Lastly, convince us, again and again, of your commitment to “never stop doing good to us.” The gift of Jesus guarantees you are at work in all things for our good, even the “all things” collide with our druthers, wishes, and prayers. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus grace-full and kingly name.
