“Let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Heb. 10:25
Lord Jesus, how surprising, ponder-worthy, and important. With your second coming in view, the main thing the Scriptures command us to do, more and more, is encourage each other. Exponential encouragers—that’s what we’re called to be.
Not flatterers—which is just manipulation dressed up in a smile and party dress. Not fear-mongers and worrywarts—projecting our anxieties on one another, while ignoring the hope-fueling Day of your return. Not free-roaming commentators—though there’s plenty of stuff wrong with us, and every place in the world.
Encouragers—those committed to building each other up, and catching each other “doing it right”—calling down more grace than fire, offering more “atta-girl’s” than grace-less body language.
Jesus help us “see the Day approaching,” with greater clarity and joy than ever before. May we live each day (including this one) in light of that Day. Help us catch the fragrance of the new-creation world breaking into this one. Before long, all things will be new and beautiful. That Day is a lot closer than we realize.
Until then, free us to worship, work, and play as unto you. Grant us quick repentances when we under-believe the Gospel, and over-believe everything else. So very Amen we pray, in your beautiful and loving name.
