“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near” (Phil.4:5).
“Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will ” (1Thess.5:18).
“Do everything without complaining or disputing” (Phil.2:14).
“Resentment kills a fool, and envy slays the simple” (Job 5:2).
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (Col.3:15).
Lord Jesus, whether in our 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and beyond—any of us can resort to acting like cranky, napless, not-fun-to-be with toddlers. When we drift, fall, jump, or settle into a thankless, grumbling, irritated spirit—it’s not a pretty thing at all. It fact, it’s larceny—robbing us and others. Rushing to anything faster than we rush to you doesn’t usually serve us well, Jesus.
Personally, I don’t typically “go off the rails” verbally—but my thinking, emotional energy, and body-language demonstrate fluency in “unholy tongues.” I don’t overindulge wine, but at times I do overindulge whine. My heart knots lead to muscle knots then I start acting like a grace-not—like a stranger to the Gospel, your love, and the Spirit’s power.
I know I’m not glorified yet, but I am already yours, Jesus. Hallelujah and thank you. I realize it’s not about missing my naps but forsaking resting in you. I am so grateful for your steadfast love, new mercies, and fresh grace. I am so grateful that you’re not shocked by my worst moments and are the only reason for my best moments; and I am so grateful that every moment you are with me and for me, Jesus. Whew! Hallelujah! And So Very Amen.
