Peter Orr on Teaching about Work

Peter Orr’s work about work first came to my attention in an article he wrote for the August 2013 issues of Themelios titled, “Abounding in the Work of the Lord (1 Cor. 15:58): Everything We Do as Christians or Specific Gospel Work?” Then recently I watched a couple of lectures on the topic Orr and his colleague, Chase Kuhn, presented at Moore Theological College for the Centre for Christian Living on the topic of “My Work and the Kingdom of God.” Orr and Kuhn’s teaching on the topic of vocation for the Christian seems to have a different nuance than much of what is taught about faith and work, so I was glad for the opportunity to sit down with Orr at Moore College in Sydney where he lectures in New Testament. I asked for his help for teaching about work from the Scriptures.

In our conversation, Orr covers key passages such as Genesis 1–3, Ephesians 4, and 1 Corinthians 15:58, bringing clarity to what these and other passages teach regarding the connection between our ordinary work and gospel work.
