David Platt on Why Jesus Can’t Just Be a Great Teacher

More Videos

In this new One Minute Apologetics video, David Platt points out that taking the teachings of Jesus seriously will require that we take his claims about himself seriously too.

When people say, “Jesus is just a great teacher. He’s not God or the Savior of the world, or the Lord of all,” I think you just haven’t listened to Jesus’s teachings.

Listen to things Jesus said about himself.

  • “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
  • “I am the bread of life. If you come to me, you will have your hunger filled.”
  • “I am the resurrection of life. He who believes in me will never die.”

And those are pretty extravagant claims. This is Jesus saying, “I’m the way to life. I’m like bread because you need me for your soul to be sustained.” If he’s saying these things and he’s not God, and Savior, and Lord, then he’s crazy—egotistical even. But if he is God, and Savior, and Lord, then we need to listen to what he’s saying because he is the way to life, he is the way to relationship with God. And we need to take seriously what he has taught.
