Gary Millar on 1 Kings part 1

In this two-part episode of Help Me Teach the Bible, I talk to Gary Millar, principal of Queensland Theological College in Brisbane, Australia, and author of Saving Eutychus. Millar is currently working on a commentary on 1 and 2 Kings, which will be published by Crossway. The Book of 1 Kings opens with a weakened King David who can’t seem to keep warm in bed, and subsequently works its way through:

the glorious and yet ultimately failed kingship of Solomon
the building and dedication of the temple
the division of the kingdom with its good and bad kings
the prophetic ministry of Elijah

Nancy Guthrie (MATS, Reformed Theological Seminary) teaches the Bible at her home church, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, in Franklin, Tennessee, as well as at conferences around the country and internationally, including through her Biblical Theology Workshop for Women. She is the author of numerous books and the host of the Help Me Teach the Bible podcast from The Gospel Coalition. She and her husband founded Respite Retreats for couples who have faced the death of a child, and they’re cohosts of the GriefShare video series.

Gary Millar (PhD, University of Aberdeen) is principal of Queensland Theological College. After studying chemistry in his home city of Belfast, Gary moved to Aberdeen in Scotland to study theology, before completing a DPhil at Oxford on Deuteronomy (published as Now Choose Life in the series New Studies in Biblical Theology). Gary worked as a pastor for the next 17 years in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and was involved in both church revitalization and church planting, before moving to Brisbane to lead the team at QTC. His latest book is a commentary on Deuteronomy in the Evangelical Biblical Theology Commentary series (Lexam Press).
