The One Rainbow That Is a Full Circle

There before me was a throne in heaven with Someone sitting on it…”  A rainbow radiating emerald-like magnificence, formed a circle around heaven’s occupied throne. (Rev. 4:2-3)

Lord Jesus, when life is great, fairly okay, or barely bearable, you call us to keep our heart-eyes locked onto John’s vision of heaven’s throne. It is a constant reminder to us that life isn’t arbitrary or haphazard. You really are Lord—not Tryer, Experimenter, or Frustrated Helper. If you weren’t sovereign, you wouldn’t be God, Jesus. Because you invest 100% of your sovereignty for your glory and our good, we worship, love, and trust you.

Until recently, I haven’t paid much attention to John’s description of the “emerald rainbow” that encircles your throne. Whenever a rainbow hangs in our skyline, we only see—at best, a half circle. But there’s always more. John’s vision of the “green circular rainbow” reminds us things are not as they appear to the naked eye. There’s always more redemptive stuff going on above us in heaven, and everywhere around us. Thank you this is true. Thank you for the peace it gives us and the hope it fuels inside us.

The first rainbow recorded in the Scriptures, was given as a promise of mercy and grace (Gen.9:13). Promises are great as long as the Promiser is awesome. Jesus, we rest and revel in the good news that you are the emphatic “Yes!” to every promise in the Bible—every promise God has made (2Cor.1:20). Hallelujah.

Today, tomorrow, in November, and forever… there’s always more going on than we perceive. There’s always more Gospel. There’s always more of you for us. Always, and So Very Amen.
