Our Joy-Igniting, Fear-Sabotaging, Mission-Fueling Hope

“In keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells” (2Pet.3:13). It will be a place and eternity of perfect everything, redeemed pain, shalom, beauty, and all things unbreakable—”no more harm and harming” (Isa.11:9). From his enthronement in heaven, Jesus proclaimed, “Behold, I am making all things new”—not all new things. (Rev.21:5)
Lord Jesus, I’m grateful to live in the era of cars having satellite positioning, in-time maps, digital screens, and calm voices to get us to our desired destination. But 10,000 times over I’m grateful you are the architect and guarantor of our final destination. You speak to us through the Scriptures with the most calming imaginable, as you lead us safely and surely Home.
So, where is our final destination? It’s not measured in miles but in magnificence. At your return you will usher in “the new heaven and new earth.” It will be the Garden of Eden on Gospel Steroids—a worldwide “grace-garden.” Your glory will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. There will be no more death and dying only living and thriving.
Indeed, this very planet and place will overflow with your beauty, goodness, and truth, Jesus. Familiar places will still exist, but they will become as they were always meant to be—void of every evidence of sin and death. Your impossible to count, every-nation Bride will be complete, gathered, and glorified (Rev.7:1-17).
Each of us will be made perfect in love. We will be as much like you as glorified creatures can possibly be (Rm.8:29). We will finally and fully love you as you deserve and love each other as you intend. In fact, it will be impossible for us not to love and we’ll never sin again. Until then, Jesus, free us to revel and rejoice in you, and live and love to your glory all the way Home. So Very, VERY Amen.
