Jesus Puts an End to All Wars and Waring

The Lord will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore. Isa. 2:4

For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility. Eph. 2:14

Lord Jesus, on Veteran’s Day in the US, we honor those who serve us in a world of “wars and rumors of war” (Matt. 24:6). But even more so, in November 2020, we are compelled to honor you as the quintessential Serviceman and Peacemaker.

On the cross, you won the war to end all wars—the war between us and God, wars among nations, between believers; and the war that continues in our hearts between your Spirit and our flesh (Gal. 5:16-18).

We crave the Day when swords, used for harming one another, will become shovels for gardening in the New Earth. We hanker for the Day when our tongues, made for blessing one another, will no longer be used to curse anyone or anything (James 3:7-10).

Consummate peace will replace all petulance and pettiness. Shalom will supplant all hating and being hated. There won’t be any more “Us versus Them,” only “You and Us.” Hasten that Day, King Jesus; hasten it. So very Amen we pray, in your triumphant and tender name.
