All praise, glory, and love “to him who is able to do exceedingly beyond ALL we ask or imagine” (Eph.3:20).
Dear Jesus, you’ve given me a great imagination, but you are a 10,000 times greater and gracious Savior. You can do WAY more than I can imagine, but I’ll “settle” for what I can imagine. In line with the truth of your Word, the promises you have made, and the riches of your grace …
I can imagine me coming more fully alive to your love, Jesus—beholding more of your beauty and having a more Gospel-saturated and shaped heart.
I can imagine a new, mighty, even greater outpouring of your Holy Spirit—similar to the Jesus Movement I experienced in the late 60’s and 70’s.
I can imagine people I love coming to know you, others coming back home to you, and still more entering a season of fresh Gospel-renewal bordering on revival.
I can imagine you patiently, tenderly, powerfully running towards me and my friends when we…
-
Grow disconnected from you like Asaph (Ps.73:22).
-
Forget the Gospel like the Galatians (Gal.4:15-17).
-
Laugh with unbelief like Sarah (Gen.18:12-15).
-
Are paralyzed with shame like Peter (Lk.22:61-62).
-
Doubt you like John the Baptist did (Lk.7:21-23).
-
Question your compassion like Martha (Lk10:40).
-
Make horrible choices like King David (2Sam.11-12).
-
Run away to party like the younger son (Lk15:11-32).
-
Stink with elder son self-righteousness (Lk15:25-32).
-
Sink into depression like Jeremiah (Jer.15:10; 20:14-18).
-
Simmer in anger and smugness like Jonah (Jonah 4:9).
-
Crave being with you in heaven like Paul (Phil.1:23).
Jesus, I can imagine our coming life with you in the new heaven and new earth (Rev.21:1-22:5)—when all evil is eradicated, your glory is everywhere, and all things will be eternally new and beautiful. I can imagine all this, and I am stoked, grateful, expectant, and ready. So VERY Amen.
