“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, constant in prayer.” Rom. 12:12
Lord Jesus, wonderful threes, triples, and triads fill the Bible. Beginning with you, our Father, and the Holy Spirit as our glorious Triune God—the source and fountain of all truth, goodness, and beauty. You came into the world to fulfill the three offices of Prophet, Priest, and King on our behalf; and in doing so you claim our past, present, and future—body, soul, and spirit. Hallelujah and thank you!
Then we remember, rest, and rejoice in these wonderful “3’s” from 3 or your beloved friends: Paul’s “faith, hope, and love” (ICor.13:13), Jude’s “called, loved, and kept” (Jude 1:1), and John’s “grace, mercy, and peace” (2Jn.1:3)—each highlighting the riches of grace that are ours in you. And today’s Scripture gives us a three-fold path for trusting and serving you all the way Home.
Be Joyful in Hope: Jesus, thank you for giving us hope, not hype—a firm foundation for the future, not a pain-denying fantasy. The more we understand the “perfect everything” we’ll enjoy forever (Rev.21-22), the greater our joy will be, the more our fears will shrink, and the freer we will be to live and love to your glory.
Be Patient in Affliction: Since all evil, sin, and brokenness have an expiration date, patience isn’t a risk but our calling. You are working in all things for our good, working all things together according to your plan, and nothing can separate us from your love. Hallelujah!
Be Constant in Prayer: Jesus, we can pray without ceasing because you love us without wavering, rule over all things without exception, and intercede for us without stopping. Hallelujah, and So Very Amen.
