“… the boundless riches of Christ…” Eph. 3:8

Heavenly Father, our thanks-list is long, and it would be much longer if we were more fully alive to the “boundless riches of Christ.” But here are some of the things we are most grateful for on Thanksgiving Day 2018. As we mention these, remind us of more.

From beginning to end, our relationship with you is entirely a gift of your sovereign might, limitless mercy, and immeasurable grace. What we could never do for ourselves, Jesus has accomplished for us, once and for all. Hallelujah!

We’ll never experience condemnation for our sin, separation from your love, or a nanosecond outside your Fatherly sovereignty. We live in your constant delight and unending favor. There are no riches like gospel-riches.

Our suffering has meaning, and our sorrows have an expiration date. Our tears will be wiped, and our pain will be redeemed. These aging, aching bodies will be resurrected and glorified, for a life of perfect everything in the new heavens and new earth. And there’s more.

Jesus prays for us, your Spirit prays in us, and you’re at work in all things for our good. The madness and meanness of our world aren’t sovereign. You are. Evil and injustice won’t prevail. Your Kingdom will. Only One is worthy of our adoration and affection. Jesus is.

Father, what a glorious gospel we trust. What a grace-full God you are. What a magnificent Thanksgiving Day this is. Free us to love you today, and everyone around us, with grateful hearts, open hands, and peaceful joy. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ wonderful and merciful name.
