Heavenly Father, this 5-fold stream of sovereign grace flows to us through the lives of those who experienced evil, uncertainty, joys, and great mystery. Each affirmed you are a good, good Father, who works in both clear and hidden ways, always engaged and always in control. By your Spirit and Gospel, bring each of us into the same harbor, haven, and hope.
- You were sovereign over Daniel’s hard calling, hungry lions, and astonishing peace.
- You were sovereign over King David’s crazy family, personal failures, and glorious song writing.
- You were sovereign over Isaiah’s difficult ministry, fractured world, and gigantic promises you gave him to give us.
- You were sovereign over Job’s enormous losses, clueless friends, and intimacy with you.
- You were sovereign over Paul’s multiple sufferings, enviable joy, and (Hallelujah!) Scripture writing.
Father, your sovereignty isn’t a dry doctrine to defend. It’s a grace-mystery to enter—a hammock to rest our weary bodies in—a loving rebuke to our unbelief, impatience, and self-centeredness—a roller coaster of mystery and praise that always takes us to more of Jesus and the riches of your grace. Thank you for yesterday, now, and forever. So Very Amen.
