Swallow the Pill of Exclusivity, Regardless of How Unfashionable it Appears

When we read Leviticus 16, regarding The Day of Atonement, we see that God is very particular about how sinners may draw near to him.

He is clear and gracious to communicate the path into his presence. It is through one man on behalf of all the people. This man comes as a priest bringing the requisite offerings prescribed for atonement.

There is simply no other way into his presence other than how he has revealed.

Today this type of exclusivity is unfashionable.

We live in a time where plurality, tolerance, and creativity are virtues. A concept such as the exclusivity of the gospel of Jesus Christ is impugned as outdated and repressive.

This type of passage helps to remind us that God has always been very particular about how sinners may draw near to him. Thankfully he has revealed it to us through the Scriptures so we are not left groping about the halls of philosophy and human reason for answers.

As Christians we must settle the issue of authority in our minds. God has spoken and he has spoken clearly (John 14.6; Acts 4.12). Since he, the LORD God, is our authority, we are compelled to swallow the pill of biblical exclusivity, regardless of how unfashionable it appears. We do this because it is true.
