Description

Many churches do not fail because of bad theology. They fail because of poor execution — poor team dynamics, bad communication, a lack of clarity about who is responsible for what. The Executive Pastor and Lead Pastor Intensive exists to help church leadership teams build the operational health that allows the gospel to flourish in their congregation for the long haul.

This is not another conference. It is a cohort-style intensive — a focused, relational, 2-day learning experience designed to equip Executive Pastors and Lead Pastors together with the tools, frameworks, and rhythms they need to lead with clarity, sustainability, and joy. The partnership between the XP and LP is central to church health, and this Intensive is built specifically for teams — not isolated leaders.

Zach Cochran (BA, University of Tennessee at Martin; MDiv, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) is the vice president of operations at The Gospel Coalition. He has spent the last decade leading in both church and nonprofit contexts, with a passion for gospel-centered ministry and organizational health. Zach is married to Kaitlyn, and they have two sons, William and Caleb. They live in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Justin Irving serves as the Duke K. McCall Professor of Leadership, Chair of the Department of Leadership and Discipleship, and Director of the Ed.D. program at Southern Seminary. Prior to coming to Southern, Dr. Irving served for twenty years at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota in both faculty and administrative positions. He is the author of Healthy Leadership for Thriving Organizations: Creating Contexts Where People Flourish (Baker Academic, 2023), Leadership in Christian Perspective: Biblical Foundations and Contemporary Practices for Servant Leaders, co-authored by Mark L. Strauss (Baker Academic, 2019), and forthcoming Identifying and Developing Leaders (Baker Academic, 2027). Dr. Irving is a member at Sojourn Church Midtown in Louisville, Kentucky. He is married to Tasha, and they have five children.

Mark Vroegop (BA, Cedarville University; MDiv, Cornerstone Seminary) is the president of The Gospel Coalition. He served in pastoral ministry leadership for nearly 30 years, most recently as the lead pastor of College Park Church in Indianapolis. An award-winning author, Mark has written several books, including Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy: Discovering the Grace of Lament and Waiting Isn’t a Waste: The Surprising Comfort of Trusting God in the Uncertainties of Life. Mark is married to Sarah, and they have three married sons, a college-aged daughter, and five grandchildren. You can find Mark on Facebook, Instagram, and X.
