All of Scripture tells a singular story that points to Jesus, and as a Bible teacher you have the privilege of leading others to see Christ on every page. The Christ-Centered Teaching cohort will equip you with practical tools to teach the Bible in a way that highlights Jesus as the fulfillment of every promise and the answer to every need. You’ll gain skills and confidence to faithfully interpret, explain, and apply God’s Word through the lens of the person and work of Jesus Christ.

This cohort is for any woman who desires to grow in her ability to teach God’s Word. We’ll go beyond the basics, exploring topics like typology, redemptive-historical context, Christ-centered application, and more.

The “What” and “Why” of Christ-Centered Teaching

In this session, we’ll explore what makes Christ-centered teaching distinct, laying a vital foundation for how we’ll think about teaching God’s Word over the next five weeks.

Week 2
Grounding Your Teaching in the Greater Story
(Courtney Doctor)

Whether in the Old Testament or the New Testament, every passage falls within the context of the larger story of Christ’s redemption. We’ll learn how to clearly ground our teaching in the metanarrative of Scripture—without overwhelming our audience.

Week 3
Promises and Prophecies that Point to Christ
(DeeDee Williams)

Scripture is full of prophecies and promises that Christ fulfills. This session will equip you to effectively use cross-references and allusions to strengthen your teaching.

Week 4
Typology and Themes and Why They Matter
(Nancy Guthrie)

What are biblical themes and typology? What roles do they play in our understanding and teaching of the Bible? This session will answer these questions and set you on a path toward more robust, Christ-centered messages.

Week 5
Christ-Centered Application
(Joanna Kimbrel)

God’s Word is meant to change us as we encounter Christ. In this session, we’ll learn to make specific applications from Scripture that have the gospel of Christ as their purpose and power.

Elizabeth Woodson (MA, Dallas Theological Seminary) is a Bible teacher and the author of Habits of Resistance, Embrace Your Life, Live Free, and From Beginning to Forever. She is the host of the Starting Place podcast and the cohost of the Shalomies podcast.

Nancy Guthrie (MATS, Reformed Theological Seminary) teaches the Bible at her home church, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, in Franklin, Tennessee, as well as at conferences around the country and internationally, including through her Biblical Theology Workshop for Women. She is the author of numerous books and the host of the Help Me Teach the Bible podcast from The Gospel Coalition. She and her husband founded Respite Retreats for couples who have faced the death of a child, and they’re cohosts of the GriefShare video series.

Courtney Doctor (MDiv, Covenant Theological Seminary) serves as the director of women’s initiatives for The Gospel Coalition. She is a Bible teacher and author of From Garden to Glory as well as several Bible studies, including Titus: Displaying the Gospel of Grace, In View of God’s Mercies, and Behold and Believe. Courtney and her husband, Craig, have four children and five grandchildren.

Joanna Kimbrel (MATS, Westminster Theological Seminary) is a Bible teacher, a writer, and the coordinator of women’s initiatives for The Gospel Coalition. She is coauthor of Behold and Believe: A Bible Study on the “I Am” Statements of Jesus and author of The Greatest Hero: The Book of Romans and Jesus is Better: The Book of Hebrews. Joanna and her husband, Chad, have three daughters and are members of Sojourn Community Church in Woodstock, Georgia. You can follow her on Instagram.

DeeDee Williams (MDiv, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; PhD, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary) serves as an adjunct professor for Leavell College (NOBTS) in the Women’s Prison Program and as an instructor in the NOBTS Ministry Wives Certificate Program.
