Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1. Matthew Hall – The Kinds of Fear That Strangle Organizations. There are so many acids that can corrode the health of an organization. Some are more apparent than others. But one of the most powerful and often hard to identify is fear.
2. Serena Sigillito – Can We Still Reason Together? A Conversation with Robert P. George. I have a lot of respect for Robert George — both for his intellect as well as his manner of engaging with ideological opponents. This interview features his thoughts on natural law, common-good constitutionalists, and more.
3. Pete Ross – Your Addiction to Outrage is Ruining Your Life. Your anger doesn’t make you right. Just because you are more angry than other people about any particular subject, it doesn’t make your opinion more valid and theirs less so.
4. Elizabeth Kolbert – How Much of Your Stuff Belongs to Big Tech? Who owns what? For how long? What happens when something you buy disappears?
5. Juliana Chan Erikson – Love Beyond Borders. We’ve been watching the South Korean series “Crash Landing On You” with our daughter in middle school, and it’s been a lot of fun — a quirky show that mixes drama, comedy, suspense, and romance.
6. Douglas Murray – The UK’s Academic Freedom Czar. The British government proposes to legislate to “widen and enhance academic freedom protections,” including the establishment of a “Free Speech and Academic Freedom Champion” who will have the right to “investigate infringements of free speech in higher education and recommend redress.”
7. Lifeway Research – Churchgoers Proud of Church’s Covid-19 Response. Almost 9 in 10 Protestant churchgoers (86%) say they are proud of how their church has responded during the coronavirus pandemic, with 58% strongly agreeing.
