“Your eyes will see the king in his beauty and view a land that stretches afar” (Isa. 33:17). “Of the Son (Jesus) he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.. God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” (Heb. 1:8–9). “We will see Jesus as he is and we will be made like him.” (1Jn.3:3)
Lord Jesus, we are made for wonder but are prone to wander. Thank you for using many things to reel our hearts back to the perspective of eternity, to the freedom of Gospel-sanity—to marveling at you, resting in your love, and longing for your return.
Indeed, today I am remembering and relishing the Day on the calendar of grace to be craved more than any other. At the Abba-determined tick-of-the-clock, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that you are King of kings and Lord of lords (Phil. 2:10-11; Rev. 19:11). Knowing you in part will give way to worshipping you in full. You have already defeated evil; on that Day you will eradicate every last scintilla of it. “Soon and very soon”—please, Jesus!
The government of the cosmos already rests on your shoulders, the last chapter of our stories is in your hands, and we are safely robed in your righteousness. You are ruler of the kings of the earth (Rev. 1:5)—and of all things everywhere. Everything in creation and history, in heaven and on earth exists by you and for you, Jesus (Col.1:15-20). And Hallelujah!—right now you are working in all things for our good (Rom.8:28).
Wonder of wonders—astonishment of all astonishments, you died to make us yours, Jesus. The delight you have in us cannot be measured or fully comprehended yet; only marveled at and treasured. Your joy is our strength, your beauty is our destiny, and your return for us is certain. We are blessed and we are yours. So VERY Amen.
