“The Lord led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.” Psalm 18:19
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
Lord Jesus, as our Good Shepherd, there is no safer place to which you could possibly lead us than the Gospel. For it is in the Gospel that we taste and see, feast and savor your great delight (Zeph.3:14-17). You’re not just “okay” with us, Jesus. You haven’t merely accepted us and given us the guarantee of heaven. You have made us your Bride and now love us with everlasting, unwavering, never-depleting affection. We believe; free us from our unbelief.
Jesus, it is your full and permanent delight in us that frees us to delight ourselves in you; and the more we delight in you the more we discover that you are the deepest desire in our heart. You have made us for yourself and you have redeemed us for yourself. We will remain restless, busy, driven, and demanding until we rest and rejoice in you—either for the first time or the “umpteenth” time.
Do you have competition?—Only illusions and delusions or good gifts that we turn into idols. We sometimes think more status, power, and money, more human attention and romance, more sensual pleasure and excitement in life, more control over our circumstances and suffering are what we really want and need. But those are temporal satisfactions, magnetic placebos, and soon-to-prove-insufficient substitutes for knowing you and enjoying intimacy with you, Jesus.
Thank you for hardwiring us for delight—not to be bored and boring. And uber-thank-you for designing us to enjoy your delight in us and for delighting ourselves fully in you. May the rest of 2026 find us returning to our first love, first delight, and eternal joy in you, Jesus. So Very Amen.
