“When I’m afraid (or angry, sad, or resentful), I put my trust in you.” (Ps.56:3)
Lord Jesus, there are many important transitions in life—from our teens to having to pay for life, from our childhood home to a variety of domiciles, from a limited perspective to a better one. It’s time for many of us to make the challenging transition from the power of our hurts, fears, and unknowns to the permanency of your redemption, grace, and love. Grant us transitioning grace, Jesus.
It’s one thing to be appropriately concerned about a variety of things; but vexing without sleeping, obsessing without offloading, and worrying without trusting you never serves us well. So, with fingers relaxed and palms loosened, we release to you the things over which we have zero control. Some of these matters are so old they’ve gathered dust and rust. Some are as current as this moment and the next hour. Some haunt us from the near and distant future. Take them Lord; then take them again when we grab them back.
A BIG HALLELUJAH—you aren’t just our “Alpha and the Omega” in life—the beginning and end. You’ve also have Gamma, Zeta, Theta, and Sigma covered too. So please make the Psalmist’s affirmation our relaxation: “When the cares and anxieties of our hearts multiply, your consolations bring us joy” (Ps. 94:19). Multiply your consolations and increase our joy this week, Jesus. Without your presence, love, and sovereignty—we are rudder-less, sail-less, oar-less boats adrift on the sea of fears, hurts, and “What if’s?”
No matter our zip code, time zone, hemisphere and heart-sphere—we choose this week to fix our gaze and affection on you, Jesus. For you aren’t “just” the “Author and Perfecter of our faith”; you are our loving Good Shepherd, reigning King, and returning Bridegroom. Hallelujah, and So Very Amen
