“The reason Jesus, the Son of God, appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1Jn.3:8) “Jesus disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him through the cross.” (Col.2:15). “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! (Rev. 22:20)
Lord Jesus, how long must we wait? We cry out for the Day when scores of nations streaming into an arena for the Olympics give way to ALL nations streaming into the New Jerusalem as your redeemed, beloved Bride (Rev.21:24-26). We are weary of the world the way she is. We want to lash out, Jesus, but better to lament. So, we cry out to you for the Day then there will be…
- No more missiles flying, children cowering, funeral planning, evil laughing.
- No more bombast, bad, braggadocio, and buffoonery in world “leaders”—or in any leader anywhere anytime—forever and ever.
- When all riches and all power become the currency of grace and kindness in a culture of servanthood in the new heaven and new earth (Rev.21-22).
- When every expression of injustice, hate, racism, “my-nation-idolatry,” harm, “us-versus-them-ism,” abuse, and “loving to be first” (3 Jn.1:9-10) will be burned up in the purging, purifying fires of your return (Malachi 3:2-4).
Jesus, help us; help us, Lord. We will not give disgust, indifference, and fear more power over our hearts than your beauty, goodness, and truth.
- Your bold cry from the cross, “It is finished!,” is our peace and joy.
- Your post-resurrection declaration, “ALL authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me,” is our sanity.
- Your trustworthy promise, “Surely I am coming soon,” is our living, trustworthy, treasured hope.
So Very Amen.
