In His Hand

The life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human beingJob 12:10

Heavenly Father, because of your sovereign grip on everything, we can release our white-knuckled grip. Better to raise our hands in praise and surrender, than trying to put our fingers into the domain of your providence.

We don’t have control over the number of our days before you call us Home. But fill the ones you’ve marked for us with copious amounts of grace from you, trust in you, and love for others.

We don’t have control over the pain, disappointments, and feelings people carry in their hearts. But free us to stay present with kindness, resisting the temptation to fix them or withdraw into indifference.

We don’t have control over the hearts and choices of our family and friends. But constantly remind us you’re the Author of our/their stories, not merely the garbage man who cleans up messes.

We don’t have control over circumstances and people that can impact our next season. But you do, and you don’t need us as your consulting partner, coach, or motivator.

We don’t have control over the impending election, a safe vaccination, data misrepresentation, or international manipulation. But you do. This doesn’t lead to shrugging our shoulders, but bending our knees.

Father, thank you for giving us Jesus’ righteousness, making us your children; and for being “large and in charge.” So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ glorious and grace-full name.
