Dear Jesus, may Psalm 63 be the permanent setting of our heart’s GPS. Blessed are the desperate. Blessed are those who realize only you can slake the thirst of our hearts—whether we’re in an arid desert or standing below Niagara Falls.

Vs. 2 – “I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory.”  In the sanctuary of the Gospel is where we find you to be more beautiful than we ever imagined, more loving than hoped, and ever ready to renew, refresh, and restore us.

Vs. 3 – “Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!”  Jesus, in your presence, our desperation becomes delight—first your delight in us, then ours in you. For your love is better than life itself. It is as unwavering as it is limitless, as liberating as it is lavish, and more life-giving than oxygen, water, and bread.

Vs. 4 – “I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.” – Our desperation and delight lead to our dependence on you, Jesus—for everything we need, and all that you promise. We lift our hearts, hands, our whole being to you.

Vs. 5 – “You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.” No feast or banquet, riches or inheritance, relationship or romance satisfy us the way you do, Jesus. May our lips and life offer a joyful song to your glory.

Vs. 7-8  – “Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.” – You “help” us the way resurrection “helps” death. We cling to you, but it is your embrace that holds us, and will never let go of us. Hallelujah, and So Very Amen.
