Job Overview

First Mennonite Church of Morton (IL) seeks a full- time lead pastor. The congregation is an affiliate of LMC (formerly Lancaster Mennonite Conference) who embark on a spirit-led movement to 1) Make Disciples of Jesus, 2) mobilize all members as missionaries, and 3) multiply faith communities both locally and abroad. The lead pastor is the shepherd of our congregation, teaching and equipping our congregants in partnership with lay leadership. The lead pastor will serve by providing pastoral care, preaching, and leading administrative duties in partnership with church leadership and staff.
Church Bio:
We are a multi-generational, bible focused, conservative congregation located in Morton, IL (Just east of Peoria, IL). We have a weekly congregational size of about 75 attenders. We are a family- focused church that in the past has always had a strong youth focus. We have been blessed with a relatively large church facility that includes a full-size gym, large kitchen, numerous classrooms and beautiful sanctuary. We have aspirations to grow and become more involved with community outreach.

Job Description

1. Serve as the shepherd of the congregation by encouraging, equipping, and releasing the saints for the
work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12).
2. Build up First Mennonite Church’s evangelistic ministry through preaching, teaching, and disciple
making.
3. Strengthen the body by focusing on member growth as moved by the “Holy Spirit”.
4. Carry out pastoral responsibilities in a manner that is biblically based and is consistent with the
Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective.
5. Devote attention to “prayer and the ministry of the Word”.
6. Serve with the Elder Team as a spiritual and visionary leader for the congregation.
7. Oversee the ordinances of the church.
8. Work with the Nurture and Evangelism Commissions in order to provide intentional opportunities which
cultivate an evangelistic, disciple-making culture within First Mennonite.
9. Coordinate and participate in pastoral care of the congregation. Follow-Up as necessary.
10. Participate in all Congregational, Church Board, and Elder Team meetings.
11. Oversee congregational communications such as First Light, Bulletins, and Social Media.
12. Represent the cause of Christ in the Church and in the local community.
13. Cultivate opportunities for counseling and reconciliation.
14. Office administration including oversight of our website.
15. Responsibility for oversight of or participation with other various teams within First Mennonite as
deemed appropriate by the Elder Team.
