Learn about the unique calling of the ecclesial theologian, why they’re desperately needed in today’s complex world, and how we form and educate them. The event will feature a combination of brief presentations, moderated panels, and Q&A.
Mark Gignilliat
Mark Gignilliat (PhD, University of St. Andrews) is professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama. He teaches Hebrew, Old Testament exegesis and Old Testament theology, with teaching interests including biblical theology, theological exegesis and the history of interpretation. Gignilliat most recently published Reading Scripture Canonically: Theological Instincts for Old Testament Interpretation and Micah in the International Theological Commentary.

Gerald Hiestand
Gerald Hiestand (PhD, University of Reading) is the co-founder and board chair of the Center for Pastor Theologians. He was previously CPT’s executive director from 2006 until 2019. He has been in pastoral ministry since 1999 and is the Senior Pastor of Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park (Chicago). Gerald has written and edited a number of books, including The Pastor Theologian, Becoming a Pastor Theologian, Beauty, Order and Mystery, and Justification (forthcoming).

Gavin Ortlund
Gavin Ortlund is a pastor, author, speaker, and apologist for the Christian faith. He serves as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Ojai, California. Gavin has a Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary in historical theology, and an M.Div from Covenant Theological Seminary. He is the author of eight books as well as numerous academic and popular articles. He runs the YouTube channel Truth Unites, which seeks to provide an irenic voice on theology, apologetics, and the Christian life.

Doug Sweeney
Doug Sweeney (PhD, Vanderbilt University) is dean of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama. In this role, he shepherds the institution by providing strategic leadership and facilitating its work to prepare men and women for gospel ministry. He is the author or editor of more than 20 books on the history of Christian doctrine, early modern Protestant history, American church history, Christology and global evangelicalism.

Todd Wilson
Todd Wilson (PhD, Cambridge University) is the co-founder and president of the Center for Pastor Theologians. He is the author or editor of over a dozen books related to Christian ministry, theology, and biblical studies, including The Pastor Theologian, Real Christian, Mere Sexuality, and The Enneagram Goes to Church. Wilson has over 15 years of pastoral ministry experience, and most recently served for a decade as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park, Illinois.
