THE SYNOPTIC GOSPELS

Written by J. Riches, W. R. Telford and C. M. Tuckett Reviewed By Alistair I. Wilson

Students and teachers will welcome the reissue of another three volumes from the Sheffield New Testament Guides series in this new single volume format. In this case the guides gathered together were written by John Riches (Matthew), William Telford (Mark) and Christopher Tuckett (Luke). Scot McKnight provides a helpful introduction to the major interpretative approaches used in examining the Gospels and suggests some strategies for reading these Gospels today. All three volumes were originally published relatively recently: Riches’ volume in 1996, Telford’s in 1995 and Tuckett’s in 1996. The bibliographies found at the end of each chapter (mainly without annotation) have been updated to include material from the late 1990s, although I could find very few items dating from after the original publication dates of the volumes. No attempt has been made to update the original text.
