The Method and Message of Jesus’ Teachings

Written by Robert H. Stein Reviewed By Stanley E. Porter

The original version of Stein’s book proved itself to be very valuable, and this timely version ensures that it will continue to serve students well. The major changes include the use of the New Revised Standard Version, an expanded treatment of literary forms, some updating of the comments on parable interpretation (the new allegorkal approach is still given short shrift) with added comments on finding the point of a parable (the position that Stein advocates), additional comments on interpreting the kingdom of God, a right rejection of the abba = ‘daddy’ position, some attention to interpretation of the ethics of Jesus, new material on Jesus’ use of amen, and a major revision of discussion of the Son of Man in the light of continuing scholarly treatment of this title of Jesus.
