God’s Home Page: A Journey Through the Bible for Postmodern Pilgrims

Written by Mike Riddell Reviewed By Tony Gray

Riddell’s major treatment of Christianity and culture, Threshold of the Future, has been reviewed in an earlier edition of Themelios. In this work he popularises and pursues his call for a more post-modern approach to Bible use and reading, deriding the violence done to the text by historical-critical scholars and preachers alike. This is a work born out of what may be termed post-evangelicalism, and whilst often quite perceptive and searing in its criticisms, many will question the answers proposed and the number of straw men erected in the process. Nevertheless, the analogy of the Bible as ‘God’s homepage’ may have appeal for some, and although Riddell’s work will inevitably annoy the conservative, it may also cause some of us to reconsider what we actually do with the text.
