A Survey of the New Testament

Written by Robert H. Gundry Reviewed By Stanley E. Porter

This third edition of a highly successful textbook from the United States is ideally suited as a basic introduction to the NT for a range of readers. The major change from the previous edition is the severe curtailing of the synoptic life of Jesus, with an appropriate expansion of the material devoted to the individual Gospels. Gundry continues to include much useful material, including reference to pertinent matters of history, culture and background, but in the service of understanding the text. The treatment of the individual books of the NT includes brief discussion of matters of authorship, etc., an outline, and then a description of the contents, accompanied by recommended passages for reading.
