Dennis Johnson has written a number of resources on seeing Christ through all of Scripture, so I was delighted to sit down with him in his office at Westminster Seminary California to discuss three chapters from his latest book, Walking with Jesus through His Word: Discovering Christ in All the Scriptures. These three chapters focus on the offices of prophet, priest, and king that run from beginning to end in the Bible.
In our conversation, Johnson traces this theme from Eden through the history of Israel, and from the coming and crucifixion of Jesus to his anticipated return as the Word, the Lamb, and the King of Kings.
Books by Dennis Johnson include:
- Heralds of the King: Christ-Centered Sermons in the Tradition of Edmund P. Clowney
- Him We Proclaim: Preaching Christ from All the Scriptures
- The Message of Acts in the History of Redemption
- Triumph of the Lamb: A Commentary on Revelation
- Let’s Study Acts, Philippians (Reformed Expository Commentary)
Other resources on Jesus as Prophet, Priest, and King:
- Name Above All Names by Alister Begg and Sinclair Ferguson
- Prophet, Priest, and King: The Roles of Christ in the Bible and Our Roles Today by Richard P. Belcher
Free eBook by Tim Keller: ‘The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness’
Imagine a life where you don’t feel inadequate, easily offended, desperate to prove yourself, or endlessly preoccupied with how you look to others. Imagine relishing, not resenting, the success of others. Living this way isn’t far-fetched. It’s actually guaranteed to believers, as they learn to receive God’s approval, rather than striving to earn it.
In Tim Keller’s short ebook, The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness: The Path To True Christian Joy, he explains how to overcome the toxic tendencies of our age一not by diluting biblical truth or denying our differences一but by rooting our identity in Christ.
TGC is offering this Keller resource for free, so you can discover the “blessed rest” that only self-forgetfulness brings.
