The Youth Pastor is chiefly responsible to provide pastoral oversight of adolescents as they grow and mature in their faith. Primarily, the
“First Baptist Church exists to see weary lives renewed through relationship with Jesus in the twin cities and beyond.”
Located in downtown Minneapolis for over 165 years, and we are committed to seeing the gospel take root in the lives of our people and city.
Our cohort of interns will participate in a Leadership Development Cohort at First Baptist Church. This internship is designed to disciple, equip, and provide ministry experience. We provide an excellent training opportunity, as we do excellent work together. The internship will be comprised of both paid and unpaid interns and will run for the duration of the 2021-22 academic year, beginning August 22, 2021.
Internship length: August 2021 – May 2022
Pay: $3,750 stipend given in three installments of $1,250
The program will be directed by Senior Pastor, Jeremy Adelman; Director of Groups, Dalton Nowicki; and Director of Relational Discipleship, Carrie Paulson.
Below are detailed the two intern positions we are currently hiring.
Two-Tier Internship Cohort:
Leadership Development Cohort | Unpaid | Averaging 5 hours/week
Ministry Interns | Paid | Averaging 10 hours/week
Ministry Intern Job Descriptions:
Throughout the year, each intern will have the opportunity to grow as they work alongside one another, the ministry staff, lay leaders, and covenant members of the First Baptist Church community. Ministry Interns are expected to be active participants of First Baptist both on Sunday mornings and in other discipleship areas such as community groups and/or ministry teams for the duration of their internship, but covenant membership is not a requirement.

Pastoral Intern
The Pastoral Intern role will be focused on two key characteristics: Character, and Competency. To achieve this, they will work alongside the Senior Pastor, elders, and the Director of Groups to gain experience in pastoral ministry and help to provide leadership in particular areas of ministry in the church. Developing character and competency in pastoral ministry will happen by meeting regularly with the Senior Pastor, reading assigned books, teaching/preaching opportunities, sermon prep. meetings, implementing vision, discipleship, and overall leadership development.

Serve Local Intern
The Serve Local Intern will help First Baptist run its Serve Local Ministries, which are mercy-oriented ministries to the downtown community. They will do so through encouraging member participation, volunteer coordination, organizing the events and additional tasks related to the execution of First Baptist’s engagement in these ministries and/or partnerships.

Worship Ministry Intern
The Worship Ministry Intern will assist the Director of Worship to help lead the congregation in worship through the planning of services, instrumental or vocal abilities, and/or skill in media ministry.

Family Ministry Intern/Children’s Ministry Concentration
The Kids Ministry Intern will work with Director of Families to help with discipleship, teaching, ministry planning and program implementation. This intern will work alongside Erik and others on the pastoral staff and lay leadership at First Baptist. The nature of this internship will require them to have ministry specific responsibilities on Sunday mornings and they will be asked to engage as part of the First Baptist community throughout their internship.

Family Ministry Intern/Youth Ministry Concentration
The Youth Ministry Intern will work with the Director of Families to help with discipleship, teaching, ministry planning and program implementation on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

Missions Intern
The Missions Intern will work to serve our missionaries and the missions team through administration, implementing vision, and communicating with the congregation about current missions-happenings.
Projects for Intern Involvement:
Church Operations Intern
The Operations Intern will work alongside our Director of Operations and the deacon team to steward our church facility, database and the finances of the church.

Campus Ministry Intern
The Campus Ministry Intern will work alongside our Director of Outreach and campus ministry partner to bring the gospel to the local college campuses, primarily Minneapolis Community & Technical College.
