(Swahili) 50 Reasons Jesus Came to Die

Swahili leaders claim that all Swahili speakers are 100% Muslim, yet research indicates Swahili-speaking churches are growing in eastern Africa. To be born into a Swahili-speaking family assumes that one will grow up to be Muslim. However, through the active work of the national church and many missionaries, the Swahili community is growing to understand the claims of the Bible, of Jesus Christ, and the new birth by the Holy Spirit. Most churches are planted through non-traditional means where relationships with people are the most important aspect in evangelism. Swahili people value friendship and trust in all new relationships and issues. As friendships bloom into changed lives and churches, the greatest need is presenting the Bible as the authority in faith and practice and Jesus Christ as more than a prophet, He is truly God with us—Emmanuel. There is a huge demand to give missionaries tools for presenting Jesus Christ and literature to teach and train leaders. (Ethnologue, Joshua Project, Operation World)

The Resource

The most important questions anyone can ask are: Why was Jesus Christ crucified? Why did he suffer so much? What has this to do with me? Finally, who sent him to his death? The answer to the last question is that God did. Jesus was God's Son. The suffering was unsurpassed, but the whole message of the Bible leads to this answer.

The central issue of Jesus' death is not the cause, but the meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons in answer to the most important question that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending his Son to die?
