(Burmese) The Whole Story of the Bible in 16 Verses

Resource

This book highlights 16 key Bible verses that stand as “turning points” in the biblical storyline—enabling us to see God’s incredible plan to redeem

his people and glorify his name from Genesis to Revelation. Whether it’s exploring the creation of humanity, the establishment of the covenants, or the coming of the Messiah, this book will help Christians see how God’s Word tells a single story about his sovereignty, glory, and grace.

Situation

The largest threat to the church in Burma and those speaking Burmese is the weak and liberal theology due to a lack of solid materials and training leaders. Lacking strong teaching has led to nominalism and increasing ethnic cultural conflicts with the church.

Myanmar, more commonly known as Burma, was ruled by a brutal dictatorship from the 1960s to 2011 when a liberalisation process to civilian government took place. This has led to renewed hope to end international isolation. However, the economy is one of the least developed in the world and is entrenched in corruption and the trafficking of heroin. With the political transition, tourism will be center stage with a large amount of Buddhist temples throughout the country.

Although Burma has not had an official state religion, the dictatorship espoused Buddhism and this entrenchment has been challenging to the church as teaching to families has been difficult due to the desire of young boys to become monks. There has also been increased tension been Buddhists and Muslims questioning equality before the government.
