(Bengali) Translation Project: Fifty Reasons Jesus Came to Die

Bangladesh is officially a secular state, but in 1988 Islam took power and it became the state religion. This action pitted the Bengali people of Bangladesh against their kinsmen in the Hindu-run portion of India. The action eroded relationships within the people group and created an atmosphere of anger, pressure, and persecution against everyone of differing faiths. The added downward spinal of poverty, suffering, natural disasters, and lack of governmental leadership has basically created disillusionment among the people.

The Bengali people are the largest unreached people group in the world. The Church offers hope, salvation, and would be able to approve many NGO groups to enter the nation and help with poverty and disasters. However, the people see only hatred and power in the two religion main religions (Hindu and Islam) that leads them to fear and hopelessness. The Church, while small, has remained very nominal without well-trained pastors and a network of churches that can share mutual support, care, and resources. New pastors are stepping forward, but they are few and poorly trained. Christian literature is in great demand. The village people are full of questions about Christianity and properly trained leaders would be better prepared to share the Gospel and plant churches. (CRC, VOM, Operation World, pg. 94-97)

The Resource

The most important questions anyone can ask are: Why was Jesus Christ crucified? Why did he suffer so much? What has this to do with me? Finally, who sent him to his death? The answer to the last question is that God did. Jesus was God's Son. The suffering was unsurpassed, but the whole message of the Bible leads to this answer.

The central issue of Jesus' death is not the cause, but the meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons in answer to the most important question that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending his Son to die?
