This panel titled Thriving Churches in Urban Contexts with Kris Brosett, Anthony Kidd, and Bobby Scott was delivered at The Gospel Coalition’s 2018 West Coast Conference in Fullerton, California.

What are the unique challenges, opportunities, and complexities of ministry today in urban contexts like Los Angeles? How does ministry in the city look different from ministry in the suburbs, or ministry in rural areas? What are the particular needs, questions, and problems the gospel can address in contexts like L.A.? In this workshop, three L.A. pastors share insights on where they have found success—and where they have struggled—in fostering gospel-centered, community-serving, engaged churches in the city.

Kris Brossett is the lead pastor of Refuge LA Church in North Hollywood, California. He planted Refuge in 2013. He is married to Jennifer and has three children. You can follow him on Twitter.

Anthony Kidd serves as preaching pastor at Community of Faith Bible Church in South Gate, California, and as a professor at the Los Angeles Bible Training School, which educates and trains Christian lay leaders for outreach and service in the greater Los Angeles area.

Bobby Scott (MDiv, ThM, The Master’s Seminary) is a pastor at Community of Faith Bible Church, and a Council member of The Gospel Coalition. It is his consuming desire to be used by God to strengthen the urban church, and he believes this objective will be best met by building families, motivating singles to live radically for Jesus, and developing a ministry upon the teaching of the word of God. He also holds a BS from UCLA in Kinesiology. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Naomi. They have six adult children. You can follow him on Twitter @pastorbscott.
