Cohort Description
We’re all called to make disciples of Jesus Christ. It sounds simple enough—help others follow Jesus as they grow in their love and knowledge of him—but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. The Demystifying Discipleship cohort will provide clarity and build confidence for both the older and younger woman as we learn from experienced women’s ministry leaders. In this six-week virtual cohort you’ll hear best practices from women who’ve thought long and hard about discipleship and implemented it in a variety of settings.
This cohort is for any woman who wants to disciple others, be discipled, or see discipleship permeate her church culture. Whether you’re already mentoring younger women or want to disciple others for the first time, this cohort will equip you with practices to facilitate deeper discipleship relationships. If you long for someone older in the faith to walk alongside you, you’ll gain insight on how to invite someone to disciple you, what questions to ask when you meet, and ways to make the most of your time together. If you’re a women’s ministry leader, you’ll hear strategies to build a robust culture of discipleship among the women in your church. For anyone who longs to think more deeply about incorporating discipleship into your life and ministry, join us for Demystifying Discipleship.
With your registration you will receive:
- Live or on-demand discipleship teaching from experienced women’s ministry leaders

Content Summary
Week 1 • January 30
Discipleship in Everyday Contexts: One-to-One Bible Reading
We all know that it’s essential to hear from God’s word, and we love to do that in our church gatherings and in Bible study settings. But what if we were part of a culture of getting our Bibles open with one another on a one-to-one basis in our informal, everyday settings? This session will explore a definition of discipleship, consider how one-to-one Bible reading is an effective means of discipling and seek to encourage and equip in the whos, whats and hows of actually getting the Bible open with other women in this way.
Teacher: Felicity Carswell
Week 2 • February 6
Demystifying Bible Study: Growing Disciples Who Are Grounded in the Word
Knowing scripture is essential to any discipleship strategy. But not all approaches to learning the Bible are equally transformative. In this session, we’ll explore best practices for Bible study spaces: What sets them apart from other discipleship tools? What elements yield the “stickiest” learning outcomes? How do we move a student from “learner” to “doer”? We’ll think through how to make the most of the precious time commitment women make to studying the Bible together.
Teacher: Jen Wilkin
Week 3 • February 13
The Purpose and Practice of Mentoring
What is personal discipleship and why does it matter in the life of the church? This session will discuss a definition of mentoring, examples in Scripture, and the ultimate goal of discipleship relationships. We’ll also consider the practicals of mentoring: Who should I meet with? When? Where? And what should we study in our time together?
Teacher: Melissa Kruger
Week 4 • February 20
Growing in Godliness Together
How do women from different stages of life teach and learn from each other? And how do they display the beauty of the gospel to a watching world? Drawing insight from the book of Titus, this session will focus on what it looks like to grow in godliness—right belief and right character—through discipleship relationships.
Teachers: Courtney Doctor and Hunter Beless
Week 5 • February 27
Cultivating an Intergenerational Discipleship Culture
Cultivating a rich intergenerational discipleship culture in our churches requires that we be both Word-based and relationally driven. Holding these core beliefs in tension helps us avoid the extremes of an academic or an anemic approach to spiritual formation. Discipleship is the sacred, holy privilege of participating in the Holy Spirit’s transformative work in the lives of the people we get to serve by investing in the eternal: the Word of God and the people of God.
Teacher: Karen Hodge
Week 6 • March 6
Following Jesus’s Call and Example
Discipleship is both answering Jesus’ call to follow him and fulfilling Jesus’ call to imitate his way of life. In this session we’ll discuss how discipling is essential, not optional; it’s a lifestyle, not a program. We will consider discipling as a spiritual investment — faithfully multiplying the Master’s entrusted assets. What does it look like to invest deeply, wisely, and seasonally in the local church? And what fruit can and should we expect?
