Kindle Deal: The Good Book for Kids: How the Bible’s Big Ideas Relate to You. $2.99.

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. Sophia Lee – Guilt Offerings. Fascinating article on abortion from the Buddhist worldview and the memorializing of unborn dead.

2. Two articles on smartphones deserve your attention this week. First, see Rachel Simmons on “The Secret Language of Girls on Instagram.” Second, see The Guardian’s take on digital distraction and how it forms (or de-forms) us as people.

3. The public spat between N. T. Wright (see here) and David Bentley Hart (see here) on translation theory is like watching two theological sumo wrestlers duke it out. And then there’s this hilarious parody from Alan Jacobs, who imagines David Bentley Hart’s grocery list.

4. Peter Hitchens – Chatterly on Trial. A well-written takedown of a book that should in no way be considered a “classic.”

5. Kate DiCamillo – Why Children’s Books Should Be a Little Sad. One of my favorite authors to read with my kids explains why darkness is important for children’s literature.

6. Michael Kelley – I Would Never Write a “Thank You” Note to Cancer. Michael reflects on his son’s leukemia diagnosis and how it changed his family.

7. Sarah Pulliam Bailey – Fact Checking The Crown: Queen Elizabeth and Billy Graham’s friendship.  Did the show take some liberties in depicting the queen’s faith and her relationship with the evangelist?
