Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1. Jean M. Twenge in The Atlantic – Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation? An important essay on how smartphones are radically changing this generation.
2. D. A. Carson – On Knowing When to Resign. So much wisdom here, for leaders of all ages.
3. A world of languages – and how many speak them. Amazing infographic.
4. Emily Nussbaum in The New Yorker – The TV That Created Donald Trump. I’ve always thought “The Apprentice” was massively influential in introducing the Trump persona to middle America.
5. Matthew Lee Anderson – Orthodoxy, Sex Ethics, and the Meaning of Nature. A thoughtful post on the relationship of morality to creedal affirmation.
6. Larissa MacFarquhar – When Should a Child Be Taken from His Parents? Haunting, tragic accounts of child protection services in response to neglect and abuse.
7. Clare Malon and Harry Enten – Democrats aren’t in lockstep over abortion. Fascinating to see how the arguments are shaping up, and what role race plays in the discussion.
