Three new episodes of the Word Matters podcast are up. Brandon Smith and I discuss the questions:
- “Do Angels Walk Among Us?” (Hebrews 13) with Dr. George Guthrie
- “Why Did Jesus Say He Only Came for Israel?” (Matthew 15)
- “Why Does Jesus Say to Hate Your Father and Mother?” (Luke 14, Matthew 10)

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1. Rod Dreher & J.D. Vance – Trump: Tribune of Poor White People. One of the most important interviews to read during this election cycle. I’ve ordered Hillbilly Elegy now!
2. Tim Keller – 5 Reasons to Host a Q&A after Your Worship Service. Tim shows how an evangelistic back-and-forth after a sermon can be effective. He interacts with objections in the comments section.
3. Derek Rishmawy – The Lord’s Supper as Rehearsal Dinner. A creative way of seeing the theology of anticipation in the Lord’s Supper.
4. Katrin Kuntz – Islamic State’s Child Soldiers: First Come the Sweets, Then the Beheadings. The Islamic State is holding thousands of young boys captive in Syria and Iraq, where it is teaching them the Koran and how to become deadly child soldiers.
5. Eric Geiger – 5 Ways to Lose Your Ministry. Eric doesn’t list the obvious “big sins.” His list hits close to home.
6. Sharon Hodde Miller – The Campaign for Character. Character, credibility, consistency – these are the reasons so many reliable Republican evangelicals are choosing to not vote for Trump.
7. Daniel Im – Developing a Missional Response to Seismic Shifts in the Church. Instead of pouting or longing for the good ol’ days, what if we saw opportunity in the culture shifts around us?
