Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. Karen Swallow Prior – The Shaken Conscience of a Pro-Life ActivistI had no idea how heavily involved Karen was in pro-life protests in the 1990’s, or the aftermath of unjust violence against an abortion doctor.

2. David Koyzis in Christianity Today – Is It Time for Americans to Disobey the Government? Thoughtful reflections on the promise and limits of civil disobedience in American history and for our future.

3. Amna Khalid and Jeffrey Snyder in The New Republic – The Rise of “Bias Response Teams” On Campus. Suppression of free speech and penalties for expressing “thought crime” on college campuses. There’s something scary about this silliness.

4. Samuel James – The Lost Art of Disagreement. The estrangement of Adams and Jefferson, America’s 2nd the 3rd presidents, and how they corresponded and worked through their disagreements.

5. Dan Reiland – Why Do People Listen To You? When people sit in a chair and listen to you for thirty minutes or three hours…what keeps them in that chair?

6. Aimee Joseph – Primary Soul Care in an Urgent Care CultureBlogs and sermon podcasts and articles are necessary helps, but must remain in their proper place—as secondary, not primary, pastoral care providers.

7. Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry – A Capitalist Critique of Consumerism. Here is where I part ways with the consumerists and explain why I think you should only give two cheers to consumerism.
