Kindle Deal: D.A. Carson’s The Intolerance of Tolerance is $3.99.

Over at For the Church, I did a brief video answering the question of what kinds of books (other than theology) pastors should read.

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. The Color Photographs of WWI. Rarely seen color photographs of the Great War provide a glimpse into life behind the lines and at the front.

2. Here are two takes on the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the Christian baker in Colorado. David French gives an optimistic reading. Hadley Arkes gives a pessimistic reading.

3. Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra – Andy Crouch and the Culture-Makers. Sarah lays out the impact of Crouch’s work, ten years after the release of his most important book.

4. Melanie Clinton – Salvation Bracelets in Africa? No Thanks. Great lesson on why cultural analysis and consideration is key when it comes to methods in getting the gospel out.

5. Elizabeth Bruenig – We are no longer capable of forgiving our enemies. If forgiveness had a face, it would be hideous to us now; to the degree that beauty is a matter of socially constructed taste, we wouldn’t be able to look at forgiveness without revulsion.

6. Ken Jones – Disciples Stumble. A true sense of our failures in thought, word, and deed magnifies the grace of God that saves sinners.

7. Andrew Perrin – Who doesn’t read books in America? About a quarter of American adults (24%) say they haven’t read a book in whole or in part in the past year, whether in print, electronic or audio form. Who are these non-book readers?
