Kindle Deal: An Introduction to the New Testament by D. A. Carson and Doug Moo. $0.99.
Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1 Mindy Belz – Itinerants and Pawns. I read every journalistic report Mindy Belz writes. She is one of the very best examples of world news through the lens of a Christian worldview. Here is her recent story on the refugee crisis in Syria and Turkey today.
2. David French – The Sexless Life when Sex is God. Read also Joe Carter’s take on the Incel movement. This is a natural outworking of the idea that sexual expression is required for human flourishing.
3. Tony Reinke – God Put You on the Pale Blue Dot. Why our small lives are not meaningless.
4. Barbara Whitaker – On the Rug Route in Romania. A travelogue that includes centuries-old churches and workshops and studios where weaving is an art (and makes me homesick for the Romanian countryside!).
5. Joseph Pearce – Chesterton Casts a Spell on Tolkien. G. K. Chesterton had a major influence on J. R. R. Tolkien for which all lovers of Middle-earth should be inestimably grateful.
6. Alan Jacobs – On the Myth of Disenchantment. Jacobs reviews a book that critiques Charles Taylor’s idea of “disenchantment,” but thinks Taylor’s view survives the critique.
7. Mark Tooley – United Methodist Choices. The choices on the table for United Methodists reveal just how divided the denomination is over sexuality and the definition of holiness.
