Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.” Isa. 55:3

Dear Jesus… wide open hearts, eyes, and ears, that’s what we bring to you on this March Monday. And why not—you only speak words of eternal life to us (John 6:68). You never flatter, shame, or lie to us. You spoke, and creation came into existence. You still speak, and everything is sustained by your command (Heb. 1:3).

Just as surely as you spoke the words to Lazarus, “Come forth,” and he exited his tomb; so you commanded us to life when we were dead in our sins and trespasses (Eph.2:1-8). Hallelujah, and thank you. Jesus, everything you are, say, and do is true, good, and beautiful. It’s why we take to heart this warning you gave through the Apostle Paul:

A time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths” 2 Tim. 4:3-4.

Jesus, protect us. Protect us when our good longings get hijacked and become selfish desires, screaming emptiness, demanding-to-be-satisfied cravings. For there are false teachers, ear-scratchers, spinmeisters, fool-enablers, and nice liars lying in wait just to tell us what we want to hear. Indeed, protect us.

Jesus, we don’t just want to “hang onto to every word you speak,” we want to marinate, feast, abide, revel, and build on every word. We want to chase after you, Jesus, not “chase after myths.” So Very Amen.
