As he [Jesus] approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.” Luke 19:41-42

Lord Jesus, long before the Day you will wipe away our tears (Rev. 21:1-5), you wept many of your own. The tears you shed over a blind, broken, and bound Jerusalem, were a veritable mercy-shower—an indictment, but also an invitation.

We intensely crave peace—deep relational connection, because we’ve been made by you, and for you. Our hearts remain restless—or wander back into discontent, danger, and despair, until they rest in you.

Foolishly, we reach and run after things that cannot possibly satisfy the peace-craving we carry. A little more money, power, control, or affirmation—these things tease and tantalize us, but they cannot satisfy us.

More tragically, we look to people to “fill us up.” Into our marriages, friendships, parenting, and working relationships—into bars, clubs, and the night, we cry out, “Who will really know me, and deeply love me?” Only you, Jesus, only you meet this constant craving and most holy longing.

Thank you for not just weeping for us, but for living and dying for us, Lord Jesus. It’s what Easter is all about. If we’ve never known you, make yourself known to us. If we’ve drifted, fallen, or jumped into disconnection from you… bring us Home. Restore and renew our intimacy with you, Jesus. So very Amen we pray, in your tenacious and tender name.
