My peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubledJohn 14:27

Most caring Lord Jesus, your promise of peace has never been more precious, timely, and necessary. No one is more mindful of our condition, and generous with provision, than you.

You first spoke these words to your disciples on the cusp of their greatest heart-troubling, worst fear, and greatest vulnerability. Within hours, you would be arrested, and they would be scattered—scattered in more than one way.

Jesus, the scenarios are quite different, but we too are feeling troubled and scattered. By your Spirit and grace—help us name our heart-troubles, fears, and vulnerability.

Are you leading us into a season of refinement, dependence, and renewal—making yourself our greatest joy and deepest delight? Are you at work exposing our heart-idols, earthly-mindedness, and little love? If so, it’s because you love us.

No matter what, we know these two things for sure: You are in control of everything associated with 2020; and you intend for your peace to rule in our hearts this very moment (Col. 3:15).

The judgment that brings us peace fell on you (Isa. 53:1-12) The grace that fuels our hope comes from you. The fire that ignites our love is kindled by you. Jesus, so very Amen we pray, in your tender and triumphant name.
