We Long, Live, and Love Between Glorious Bookends

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Rev. 22:13

Lord Jesus, there is a lot we don’t “get” yet, and certain things that are hard to “square” with what we believe about God and the way things ought to be. There are events we wish had never happened in world history, and to people we deeply love.

But this we know, rest in, and trust. You get the first and last “word” on everything. We don’t live between bookends of chance, randomness, and mere possibilities. We live smack-dab between the most glorious of bookends—with you as “the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

You’ve never experimented or “tried” to do anything, as though failure is a possibility for you. And you won’t show up at the end of history just to “sweep up our mess.” When we finally know your “Omega-ness”—as the consummator of all things, then we’ll fully rejoice in your “Alpha-ness”—in the perfection of things planned before our world began.

Jesus, until that magnificent Day, may your peace powerfully rule in our hearts. May your present-and-coming Kingdom fuel our hope and capture our allegiance. May the Gospel shrink our fears, enlarge our joy, and free us to live and love to your glory—starting with the 2021 “holiday” season. So very Amen we pray, in your merciful and mighty name.
